Exercises in Water Class
Keep Fit and Flexible with the Margaret Morris Method (M.M.M.)
This class is continuing for another year so that members can gain more confidence, but basic steps will still be taught to newcomers.
New members, couples and particularly singles, male and female, are welcome.
Venue: Neal Guppy's Enterprise Club, Nunnery Lane. We meet fortnightly on the 2nd and 4th Mondays, starting on Monday 24 September, 1.45 to 3.45pm
Cost: £2 - £3 per session, depending on numbers, to be paid at the beginning to cover the cost of the room. The total cost will be determined before the first session.
Mobility and strengthening exercises are performed standing in water with shoulders under the water, near the shallow end and also at the pool side. The class members are friendly and supportive.
The class meets at the Energise pool in Acomb, York on Mondays, 1:30pm to 2:30pm throughout the year, except on Bank Holidays.
Members may join at any time, but please contact (group leader) to arrange a start date. A current U3A membership card needs to be shown upon joining.
After class, some of our members meet in the café for a cup of tea and a chat.
The pool is hired for U3A class members’ use only and the shared charge is approximately £22-24.00 for 9 weeks course commencing September 2018. The cost varies and is dependent upon the number of people attending the course. Per session £1.20 is required at reception for the digital locker key; £1 is returned when the key is handed back.
The optimum number in the pool is 50 people. If more people are interested, a short waiting list will be started, but do not let this deter you from enquiring for a place, as vacancies from time to time do occur.
Day/Time: 1:30pm to 2:30pm on Mondays, except Bank Holidays.
Croquet (strictly, Golf Croquet). Fresh air, gentle exercise and friendly competition.
Training is provided for those who have not played before, but the game is easy to pick up.
The club grounds are a short walk from Blossom Street; easy access by a number of bus routes. There is parking on local streets but watch out for 'residents parking' restrictions and time limits.
Tuesday sessions start at 2 pm and go to about 4 pm; Saturdays start at 10 am. Most players join either the Tuesday or the Saturday group but you can be flexible between them. £2 a session. No equipment needed; wear flat shoes.
It's not essential to come every week (though you will play better if you practise more...). Enquiries welcome at any time; those who have expressed interest will be advised when the 2019 season starts.
If you are looking for a great way to get fit and have fun then racketball could be the sport for you. It is similar to squash, played on a squash court with a racket that has a short handle and large head and a bouncier ball, making it easier. A coach attends regularly on a Tuesday to give us expert tips on how to improve our game. Rackets and balls are provided.

MMM is international with International Summer School at Chichester University, Easter course at Bradford College and weekend courses, workshops and classes.
Exercises for mind and body, which look good and are satisfying to perform. All done in a relaxed non-competitive atmosphere where everyone performs at their own level to mainly classical music.
The exercises are for co-ordination, posture, balance and breathing. So at the end of the class one feels a real sense of well-being.
Margaret Morris was a professional dancer and painter who also trained as a physiotherapist. Her book “My life in Movement” is in York Explore.
The Group Leader was a professional actor then, before emigrating to Australia in '87, trained as an MMM teacher and introduced MMM to Perth, W Australia and Melbourne and U3A there.
